HedgeHog - Crochet Project

CHALLENGE: Create a Hedgehog Hat!

So after I created the horse hat,  I was asked if I could do a hedgehog hat.  I had no clue how to do this so I looked for Ideas online.  I searched through photos of hedgehogs  as well as different hats and crochet stitches.  I finally decided to try a new stitch and also try to do the hat as close to one piece as possible ( meaning the face would be created into the hat and not sewn on later as well as the " fur" on the hedgehog.  Two things I was not sure I could do and had never done before.  So I started to tackle the project.  I learned how to do a loop stitch first.  This stitch would be used to create the fur on the Hedgehog and would also shape the hat.  This was not a hard stitch to learn but I did not find anyone doing them to create a hat, so I had to wing it.  It was hard to get some of the loop stitches into the same hole twice.. It was also hard to keep from grabbing one of the darn loops as I went around the hat to create more but soon I was able to get into a rhythm and figure it out.  By that time, it was time to work in the face.  I switched from the brown to the buff color and hoped to be able to shape the top of the face into a heart type shape.  Success!  It worked.  Now I am not the best at keeping count of things so I had to pay close attention when I got back to the face each time.  For doing this for the first time and not really looking at instructions, I thought it went pretty well!  The hat is pretty thick since the Fur is on the hat so it should make a warm winter hat for years of wearing.  The face was pretty simple to do one I had the hat finished.  I made two small circles for the eyes and stitched them on adding eyelashes and then created the nose by ch 5 and sc 4 then sc 3... Left the tail long so that could sew this on and then add the mouth of the hedgehog.  Finally I crocheted the little flower to go into her hair to give her an even more polished look.  Once the face and flower were finished, I finished with small ear flaps, edging and braided tassels

This little girl took me two days to complete.  She will be shipped off this weekend to a sweet little girl in Methwold, UK.  = )

I am a Storyteller.. Kit and contest

Spread Your Wings was created using the free Story Teller kit by the Scraporchard team.  The Kit is full of great goodies.  The challenge was to find something inspirational from 2012.  For me, that was getting orders to England and moving to another country.  Here we are able to do some travelling as a family and see things we have never seen and revisit things we have.  The kids will experience many things that not every child gets to see.  They will live with children that are a little different and learn to cope with the challenges of a new culture.  It will allow them to grow into more rounded individuals.  What a great opportunity for all of us!

Here is my page...

Boot Covers- Crochet Project

After receiving my large box of Yarn, I was excited to see all the bright colors that had come!!  I LOVE COLORS!  I have a lot of Rainbow colored ideas in my head right now and the first was leg warmers.  I started working on these and Paige came over and asked what I was making.  I told her I was making Leg Warmers and she gave me that look of  "why?"  LOL... thanks PAIGE!  I was going to make her model them when I was finished but I knew by that look she would not be too pleased with me.  I thought that they would make a cute addition to her little school uniform for days she wore skirts.  But she did not seem too thrilled about them and she does not like LEG WARMERS.  I guess she just does not know style yet. = )  So I continued with one color after another.  I did not add the cinching at the top and bottom and put them on my leg (over my boot) to see size and decide how much more I needed to do if any before starting to do the ends.  After I did that,  I got the idea for myself... boot covers!!  I have had my UGGs for a few years now and I love them the way they are but sometimes the plain grey needs a little color.  Why not place these over them and cover the upper half of the boot while leaving the foot part exposed?  It worked and I think they look cute!  I can always add the tops and bottoms to them later if I wanted to.  I was very happy they came out matching nicely and also the " seams" are barely visible.  They crocheted up pretty fast. The only thing that became difficult was the yarn tangling around the other colors since I left all attached until the end.  Would I do it again?  YEP!  How cute would they be to have different holiday ones as well... Valentine's day is coming up!

Horse Hat- Crochet Project

Not that my kids need hats but this momma likes to try new things and when new things get into my head, I have to do them.  Once they are finished.. guess who snatches them... THE KIDS!!  So after Mathew stole the Zebra hat that was going to be for Paige, I had to finish the horse hat I had originally started for her.  I had the beanie part done  and one part of the ears so all I had to do was the little details.  This took me all day, but of course I was working on Birthday things as well so it was an on and off project.

I think she turned out pretty cute.  Paige chose the colors of everything except for the grey and white.

Zebra Hat- Crochet Project

Yaaaahhhhh... My yarn came in!  You can't believe how excited I am that it has arrived FINALLY!  It only took 6 weeks from the time I ordered it until it arrived!  I guess I am going to have to do some sweet taking and sending of some money to get my orders here faster.  (MOM... = ) )

This little Zebra Hat was the first project since I got the yarn.  I love how he turned out and Mathew snagged it up fast.  I was going to put a pink bow on it and give it to sis because she so desperately wanted an animal hat that was a ridiculous price!!  But NOW, I have to make her the horse hat I was planning on anyhow!

The ears were the hardest as they were the first I had done and I made the pattern up as I went along.  I did not want to see the yucky crocheted back so I made the front and then worked one edge towards the back to make the back of them.  It was trial  and error  and lots of taking out stitches to accomplish this!  But all in all, I think this guy turned out pretty cute.  = )
